Persuasion by Jane Austen

Anne Elliot is the daughter of a baronet who has lived above his means and needs to rent out his estate to bring in money. The couple who rent it is related to a man Anne knew previously and turned down his proposal: Captain Wentworth. Anne was persuaded by her best friend to refuse him then and she dreads meeting him again. Her father and sister go to Bath and Anne goes to stay for a bit with her other sister Mary and her family. The paths of Anne and Captain Wentworth cross and each of them have to deal with their past and to weather any feelings they might still have for each other. I love this book, especially the letter that Wentworth writes Anne. He has to learn to let go of bitterness and jealousy and she has to learn to do what is best for herself. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #janeausten #classics #fiction

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

Pippa and her husband Gabe live close to a rocky ledge where people have tried to end their lives before Gabe talks them out of it. Then one lady comes to the cliff and jumps to her death. To Pippa, it seemed like her husband and the woman knew each other and this arouses suspicions in her mind. Over time, the woman’s identity is revealed, and she is Amanda, Gabe’s bosses wife. The story is told in alternating viewpoints between Pippa and Amanda, before the jump and after the jump for both women. Secrets come to light about both of their husbands and what happened at the cliff that night. A bit slow in parts, I found the reveal to be anticlimactic. There was a good twist, and I thought that Amanda’s viewpoint was interesting, especially the after her death. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.   #suspense #fiction #thriller #books

Charlotte finds him frustrating and tries her best to annoy him at first, but eventually the two of them become friends. Both of them fight the growing attraction between them, and Callum and Charlotte have to overcome their prejudice toward each other. This was such a cute and sweet story! The Lady Of Galway Manor by Jennifer Deibel

Stephen Jennings was not counting on having an apprentice in his family’s shop, especially a daughter of an English aristocrat, but his father brings Annabeth De Lacy to work with him. Annabeth is the daughter of the Crown appointed landlord in Galway Parish, Ireland. The local Irish are not happy about the English being there, and tensions between Irish people and the British who are stationed there are high. Stephen tries to keep his distance from Annabeth because she is a daughter of the enemy of the Irish people and because he had his heart broken and says he doesn’t believe in love anymore. Annabeth learns about the Irish culture and changes her view of what she thought about Ireland. She has a way to connect with people that helps the shop and eventually Stephen and Annabeth fall in love. Events happen to her family and tensions boil over throughout Ireland during this time. I liked the history woven through the story about the situation in Ireland during the 1920’s. I really lik

The Mortal Irishman By Timothy Egan

The Mortal Irishman by Timothy Egan is an interesting look at a fascinating prominent Irish, eventually American, man: Thomas Francis Meagher. He was born into a wealthy family in Waterford, Ireland in 1823. In the first few chapters, Egan does a good job going through the history of Ireland and how the English government throughout the centuries mistreated the Irish. Thomas Meagher was a gifted orator and this was evident from the time he was in school. His speeches would later fire up revolts against the English and later help the Union cause in the American Civil War. When Meagher was a young man, the British Empire was at the height of its power. With his family’s influence and his oration gifts, Meagher could have served the English Crown and his career in Great Britain would have been great. But he was an Irishman first, and was influenced by those in Ireland who preached Irish independence. Meagher was friends with newspaper editors, writers, poets who were for throwing off the
