Anne was persuaded by her best friend to refuse him then and she dreads meeting him again. Her father and sister go to Bath and Anne goes to stay for a bit with her other sister Mary and her family. The paths of Anne and Captain Wentworth cross and each of them have to deal with their past and to weather any feelings they might still have for each other. I love this book, especially the letter that Wentworth writes Anne. Pippa and her husband Gabe live close to a rocky ledge where people have tried to end their lives before Gabe talks them out of it. Then one lady comes to the cliff and jumps to her death. To Pippa, it seemed like her husband and the woman knew each other and this arouses suspicions in her mind. Over time, the woman’s identity is revealed, and she is Amanda, Gabe’s bosses wife. The story is told in alternating viewpoints between Pippa and Amanda, before the jump and after the jump for both women. Secrets come to light about both of their husbands and what happened at the cliff that night. A bit slow in parts, I found the reveal to be anticlimactic. There was a good twist, and I thought that Amanda’s viewpoint was interesting, especially the after her death. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.   #suspense #fiction #thriller #books

The second book in the If I’m Found series picks up where the first book left off. Casey leaves Shady Grove after changing her look and she gets new identities. Dylan believes Casey is innocent and is determined to help her and needs to stay on the case even though the two corrupt detectives don’t want him helping anymore. He contacts Casey and tells her he wants to help her and points her towards faith and God. Casey tries to investigate why her father was murdered on her own, finding out that one of the detectives who killed her dad has a mistress in Dallas that he lavished with money and expensive things. She heads to Dallas two try to observe the mistress and has to take a job while there. As with her previous job, Casey stumbles into a situation that compels her to help someone else: a man who is falsely accused of abusing a child at a school. The corrupt detectives are searching for her and end up in Dallas, but Dylan finds her first and helps her out. Casey is determined to save

Charlotte Parker is an auditor for a bank and hopes to climb the corporate ladder. Callum Sterling is working on the new app for the bank and Charlotte does not like him, despite being slightly attracted to him. To Callum, Charlotte seems demanding and cold. Charlotte finds him frustrating and tries her best to annoy him at first, but eventually the two of them become friends. Both of them fight the growing attraction between them, and Callum and Charlotte have to overcome their prejudice toward each other. This was such a cute and sweet story! I liked seeing Charlotte and Callum grow as characters and I liked their friends and family. The final book in the Caraval trilogy picks up where the second book ended. Tella won Caraval and and got her mother back, but Legend left her broken-hearted. Her mother is in a deep sleep and won’t awaken until the Fates wake up. Meanwhile Scarlett and Julian have issues and Scarlett decides to invite the real Count that she was supposed to marry to Valenda. She does come to realize that that impulsive  decision was a mistake as Julian is the boy she loves. Tella is devastated by what she perceives as Legends rejection of her and incidentally overheard him talking to the witch who had given him his powers,hoping she would tell him how to defeat the Fates. Jen the Empress dies, word spreads that Dante, also known by Tella, Scarlett and Julian as Legend is the true lost heir to the throne. The second book in the Caraval series focuses on Scarlett’s sister Tella, who had made a deal with a mysterious stranger to reveal who Legend, the leader of Caraval. After Scarlett won the game, the actors of Caraval are invited to perform in Valenda, where the Empress of the empire resides, to perform at her birthday celebrations. Tella and Scarlett go with them; Scarlett goes for Julian and Tella goes to fulfill her promise to the stranger. Finding out who Legend is is not an easy feat. Tella gets separated from her sister and when she tries to get in the castle where her sister should be, she is refused entry. The Mortal Irishman by Timothy Egan is an interesting look at a fascinating prominent Irish, eventually American, man: Thomas Francis Meagher. He was born into a wealthy family in Waterford, Ireland in 1823. In the first few chapters, Egan does a good job going through the history of Ireland and how the English government throughout the centuries mistreated the Irish. Thomas Meagher was a gifted orator and this was evident from the time he was in school. His speeches would later fire up revolts against the English and later help the Union cause in the American Civil War. When Meagher was a young man, the British Empire was at the height of its power. With his family’s influence and his oration gifts, Meagher could have served the English Crown and his career in Great Britain would have been great. But he was an Irishman first, and was influenced by those in Ireland who preached Irish independence. Meagher was friends with newspaper editors, writers, poets who were for throwing off the
