A Heart Adrift by Laura Frantz

Esmee Shaw still thinks about the man she turned down ten years before, Captain Henri Lennox. Esmee is the daughter of a Admiral turned privateer and owned her mother’s chocolate shop. When Henri Lennox comes back to her hometown of York, Virginia, Esmee has to figure out her feelings for her former beau. Henri also has to sort out how he feels about Esmee while they provincially meet each other in society. Esmee works in the shop and helps her sister Eliza who is married to a prominent man in Virginia society and pregnant. She also helps the poor at the almshouse much to the consternation of her sister and ladies in high society. It is 1755 and there is talk of war between England and France and trouble on the frontier between the settlers of the two countries. Henri is called by the governor to helm a ship in the Royal Navy to capture French ships bringing soldiers and supplies to fight the British. He is commissioned but before he leaves, he repairs his relationship with Esmee after she comes to the island off the coast that he lives on to take care of an old lighthouse that was vacant. Esmee and Henri have to weather being apart and tragedy before they are together. This is one of my favorite books I have read. I love Esmee and Henri, their faith and love story. Well paced, and with a satisfying ending, I highly recommend this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #christianfiction #fiction #history #books
