Review: Counted with the Stars ( Out of Egypt book 1) by Connilyn Cossette

Kiya, a young Egyptian woman hoped to marry the man she loved; a man with rank in Pharaohs army. Her life is turned upside down when her father sells her to his friend as a slave because his business fails. As a slave, she has to work for the demanding and cruel wife of her father’s friend. Kiya works with a Hebrew woman,Shira, who she becomes friends with and will save Kiya from her mistresses wrath. When the plagues come to Egypt, Kiya and all the Egyptians are frightened. To save her brother, Kiya leaves everything to go with Shira and the rest of the Jewish people into the wilderness. Egypt and the comforts it offers tempt Kiya to return, but eventually she learns to accept the Hebrew God as her own. I loved this book! Interesting to read a biblical fiction about a woman not mentioned in the Bible, but one who could have been there. I liked the historical and faith elements and the bond between the characters. I look forward to reading the second book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #biblicalfiction #

Review: The Night Sister by Jennifer McMahon

A friendship between three girls is torn apart when they discover something grisly in a old tower of an abandoned motel. When something tragic happens to  Amy, Piper and her sister Margot have to deal with the past mystery as well as with how their friend died. The story is split between the three girls and Amy’s mom Rose and her sister Sylvie, who lived at the motel in better times. As the story plays out in both timelines, things eventually come together and mysteries are resolved. I thought some of the middle was kind of slow and the ending was not as strong as I would have liked. ⭐️⭐️.5 content warning: some strong language, mentions of abuse, some violence

Review: The Block Party by Jamie Day.

This social drama centers around a wealthy neighborhood that is rocked by a murder at a Memorial Day party that is held on Alton Road each year. The story centers around Alex and Lettie, a mother and daughter who get caught up in the affairs of friends and family. The story starts a year before the murder and is told through the alternating viewpoints of both women. Alex is struggling with issues with her marrige and alcohol, as well as getting involved with neighbors lives. Lettie is a Senior in high school who tries to get revenge on a former friend for hurting her cousin, but that opens a whole lot of problems for her. As mysteries pile up about the people on Alton Road, both Alex and Lettie confront truths about themselves and thier place in the unfolding story. I liked the alternating perspectives of the narrative and the surprising things that were revealed about some characters. The plot I thought dragged just a little bit at the beginning, but I liked the ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 cont
