Review: Anne Boleyn: A King’s Obsession by Alison Weir

The second historical fiction book focuses on Anne Boleyn, a Queen who had a tragic fate. The story starts with Anne serving at the courts of Burgandy and then France. Less pretty than her sister Mary, Anne makes her way by her wit, grace and intelligence. When she is at Henry’s court she catches the eye of a young lord and ther have a romantic relationship, but Henry’s chief adviser Wolsey, puts a stop to their relationship. Anne is devastated and is sent to her family’s house in the country. When Anne returns after several months, she captures the court’s attention, especially the king’s attention. Henry pursues Anne, and Anne holds him off until he promises to divorce his wife and marry her. Eventually, Henry gets his way and after changing England forever, marries Anne. Thier marriage has trouble, as Anne gives Henry a daughter instead of the son he desperately longed for. Anne loses her temper at Henry and he tires of her. Anne was never popular with the public and makes enemies o...

Review: The Last Russian Doll by Kristen Loesch

Rosie has a nice life in England, but her family’s murder in Russia still haunts her. After her mother dies, Rosie decides to go back to Russia to learn what happened and more about her family and the porcelain dolls her mother had. She travels with an enigmatic Russian writer and the bodyguard he hired for her. She finds out who hurt her family and discovers other things about herself and her family’s history. She eventually learns about a young aristocratic woman named Tanya who lived at the time of the Russian Revolution in 1917. We see Tanya’s story as well and it will eventually tie into Rosie’s story. The dual timeline was done well and the characters were interesting. The story was a little slow in some areas, but it was an interesting story.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #fiction #historicalfiction

The Hero Of Ages By Brandon Sanderson

Vin and Elend have to fight a power more powerful than the Lord Ruler in the last book of the Mistborn trilogy. The story follows them and the other characters as they try to stop the force Vin accidentally released at the Well of Ascension. Elend has mistborn powers since the events that happened at the well, and he has to deal with ruling a empire. Vin helps Elend with his new powers and with the defense of everyone. In the north, Elend sends another member of their group, Spook, to spy on the rebellion that erupted there. Spook learns a lot about the rebels and fights against them. Elend and Vin go south to find atium, a powerful metal. They have to fight a king and monsters, all while Ruin, the power from the well, finds them. The story has a lot of action and great character moments. I liked that Spook, the youngest from Kelsier’s group, had his moment to shine in the story.Vin and Elend’s character development from the first book progressed well, and the bittersweet ending felt e...

Eternal, Everywhere, With You by Sherry Rossman

When Dovie wishes upon a falling star, she will realize that she made a mistake. Losing time and weird things happen to her and her friends throughout the story. The story has some allegorical elements to God and I liked that, but the writing made the plot a tad bit confusing. I liked the characters of Dovie and Silas and their friendship. Overall was an interesting concept, but I wish it was executed more effectively. I received an Arc copy from BookSirens. Thank you to BookSirens and the publisher. My opinions are my own. ⭐️⭐️

Dear Henry, Love Edith By Becca Kinzer

Edith Sherman thinks she is sharing a house with an old man, Henry Hobbes, and Henry thinks Edith is an old woman. Edith and Henry communicate through letters and never meet at the house, meanwhile Edith does meet Henry and they are both attracted to each other and become friends. When they find out what happened, Edith and Henry continue with their relationship and deeper feelings develop between them. Edith will go to South Africa and this causes her to question what she really wants and Henry loves Edith, but he doesn’t know how to tell her. They do work things out and Henry and Edith have a happy ending. This was so good. The story was entertaining and the antics of the townspeople had me laughing out loud. All the characters were great and I loved the dynamic between Henry and Edith. I loved how Henry rushed to Edith’s side when she was sick in South Africa and how he loved her.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

How to Plot a Payback by Melissa Ferguson

Finn Masters blames sitcom star Lavender Rhodes for ruining his acting career. They went to school together and he had an accident that he blames on Lavender, but years later when he is hired to work on the sitcom she stars in, he tries to get some payback for what he believes she did to him. This whole plan backfires on Finn when his plans don’t work as he intended. Lavender has no idea that he blames her for some things that happened years ago and is friendly towards him and she is not what he expected. Finn and Lavender start to develop a relationship and he realizes that he needs to let go of his bitterness and stop blaming Lavender for the past. Romance blossoms between the two and also friendship between the dogs that they have. The story was written well, I loved some of the banter between Lavender and Finn. The behind the scenes of a sitcom setting was fun and I liked the dogs of each character. Finn does realize that he was unjustified treating Lavender the way he did and chan...
