This Time It’s Real by Anna Liang

Eliza Lin is a student at a international school in Beijing who has moved with her family to different places all around the world. This makes it hard for her to have many permanent friends and so she focuses on her grades and family. When she has do do a writing assignment for school, Eliza makes up a story about how she has a boyfriend. Her essay goes viral, exploding over social media and a writing magazine takes note and wants Eliza to write some articles for them. The problem is she doesn’t have a boyfriend. Enter Caz Song, a budding Chinese movie star who goes to her school. They make a deal with each other: Caz will pretend to be Eliza’s boyfriend and Eliza will help him with college entry essays. So Eliza writes articles for the magazine about her fake relationship with Caz, all while dealing with the fame that her writing and dating Caz creates. Things go awry when feelings start to develop between Caz and Eliza, and Eliza has to deal with almost losing her best friend overseas. Eliza has to decide what she wants and whether she wants to admit she loves Caz. This was a very cute fake dating story. I liked the banter and how the relationship developed between Eliza and Caz. A bit slow in the middle, but ended well.  Content warning: strong language ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5. #fiction#youngadult #asianfiction
