In the Final Empire under ash filled skies and a red sun, the Lord Ruler cruelly reigns. The skaa, who are basically slaves to the nobility, suffer cruelty every day. Vin is a orphaned girl who is in a street gang stealing from people who are wealthy and she is trying to survive in this dangerous world. She has certain powers that she doesn’t understand until she catches the eye of someone who knows what power she has. Kelsier is the leader of a group of elite thieves, and discovers what Vin is: a Mistborn. The powers come from different metals so you can jump, fight and control some emotions of other people. If you can use powers from all metals, not just one, and have high nobility heritage, you are a Mistborn. Kelsier recruites Vin and agrees to train her in how to use her powers. He also is planning his biggest challenge yet: overthrow the Lord Ruler. Planning a skaa rebellion and trying to start a war between the noble families are some of the schemes he and his group act on. Vin goes undercover as a noblewoman to gather information about the noble houses so the information could be used by Kelsier. She sees a vastly different world than the one she struggled to survive in. Vin meets a friend in Elend, a boy from the most powerful house and she realizes he is a good person. Elend and Vin become friends and she does gather information from her appearances at all the balls that she goes to. Kelsier is planning the downfall of the leader that is oppressing everyone in the empire and he and Vin  and their friends plan and fight for that end. This was a good paced story and really good world building. I really liked Kelsier, Vin,Elend and their friends and the action was well done.
